Every registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. That way, you have got both your website and your e-mails handled by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The former reveals which server manages the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you enter a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the site and the emails means you could have your site and your emails with 2 different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account through our company and you wish to move either your website or your emails to an alternative company, it's going to take you literally just two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you modify or create won't take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any issues if you decide to direct your website or emails to another service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
